A group of students stood in track uniforms outside Erbert Pines High school. The weather was brisk, the Ebert Pines green, the sky blue with a few stray clouds. Yelling pierced the air, but no one was being scolded- it was just the normal over the top coach voice. “Renard?” the coach yelled with that usual anger that shadowed gym teacher’s voices. First day attendance, so fun. “Hi” Kirby replied with a slight French accent, raising her hand and waiting for the usual response. “Older siblings?” the coach asked. “Yup, 5” Kirby said followed by an eye roll, she was used to this routine- it had been happening for the past 11 years. As the coach moved on, nearing the end of attendance and the beginning of warm up Kirby attempted to tame her mess brown hair, the curse she got for looking like her father. Boredom glazed over her muddy brown eyes ‘run you little beast’ she thought imagining herself as a medieval knight, chasing the ‘beast’ coach around not a track but a city, the coach a murder, after her queens life. Running always left her in a strange frame of mine, which was really the only thing about it she enjoyed. Certainly not the puke green and royal purple that adorned the school track uniform.
